PS:Next News Roundup

On Monday Planetside Universe broke the news that they had recieved an update from Smedley stating that a recently announced Planetside Next delay had nothing to do with the recent SOE layoffs. A few hours after this info was posted Smeds himself stopped by the discussion thread and gave some updates:
PS:Next being moved to a new engine
Recently ( a few weeks ago actually) we made the call to update the game to a new internally developed engine. Doing that meant delaying the game, but we thought it was in the best interests of Planetside Next. It also means delaying releasing further info for a little while. I will let you all know more when we firm up the schedule.
Beta to include current subscribers automatically
The likely next step is a larger scale release of information and the beta signups going up. As I've said previously current Planetside subs will be included automatically.
Player skill > all
PSN is a skill based game at it's core. Player skills ( as opposed to character skills) are always going to be the most important. That said we have some cool new things to offer in this department. Not ready to share just yet but we have some cool new things here.
Planetside to remain the most massive FPS
Planetside IS a massively multiplayer game. That's what makes us different than Battlefield 3 ( which looks awesome btw). You wont see fighting on the scale we are going to offer anywhere else period. Not even close.
Smed likes killing VS
My skin is thick enough to deal with negative posts. Im just going to take it out on them in game at the end of a virtual rifle. I imagine the haters as Vanu.

Planetside NEXT info!

Little by little we are hearing more and more about Planetside Next. We'll do what we can to keep you guys updated here with news as it comes out, but as of now here is what we know.
Release date: "Early 2011"
From an interview with EuroGamer Smedley says:
"We’ve announced publicly that the game is in development and we haven’t announced a release date for it but you can expect it… We’re looking at late first-quarter, early second-quarter [2011]."
Also, looks like Smeds is posting some info about Planetside NEXT via a livejornal account, and twitter. I'm not sure either of these sources have been verified as actually being Smedley, but they're looking to be legit.
The blog is here: http://john-smedley.livejournal.com/
Twitter account here: http://twitter.com/j_smedley
So far, two new renders have been posted:
A galaxy:
]
and a vanny render has been released as well (see above)
Other game info:
Woah NO biffers!
No BFR's in Planetside Next
It's interesting how many comments we get about BFR's. Well you can stop sending the "please don't put BFR's in PS Next" emails. They aren't in there.
Smed
Looks like maybe no Sanc either:
The whole Sanctuary concept is something that slowed things down too much.
My biggest fear looks to be unjustified, they will NOT be making PS Next a shitty MW2 clone:
I love Planetside. I really do. It's an amazing game. you won't find any other FPS where you can have a 100 vs. 100 battle raging. And we pulled this off 5-6 years ago.
...
To me, Planetside Next means we get a chance to take the essence of everything that was fun in Planetside and make it a lot better. Massive battles on a scale no other FPS will touch. None of this 64 player stuff. REALLY MASSIVE. With much better organization, and a tight focus on making sure the action is always going on, with awesome graphics.
So far all great fucking news. Like I said before, we'll try to keep you guys posted as more info comes rolling in.

The great server move of '07
Ok well here we are, all set up and running on our new server. Make sure you give Jim a big 'ol thanks when you next talk to him, because he sure did have to jump through alot of hoops to get us here.
All previous logins should work, with the exception of anyone who registered after March 30th. If you signed up after March 30th, you will need to re-register. The last backup I was able to grab was at noon, on the 30th, so the forums are exactly as they were then, right now.
Lastly, I should have configured everything correctly over here, but there will probably be some annoying little bugs popping up here and there over the next few weeks. If you run into a problems don't hesitate to start a thread, shoot me a PM, or even send me an email.
Sorry about the downtime guys,
Beau
